Serving Our Community Since 1924
Fort Chiswell Chapter demonstrates our commitment to “God, Home and Country” through meaningful service to the Wythe County and Bristol community. Our members dedicate hundreds of volunteer hours each year to projects that make a real difference.
Education
American History Essay Contest
Each year, we recognize outstanding middle school students from Bristol-area schools for their essays on American history. Our district winners have gone on to place at state and national levels. A chapter-sponsored student won first place nationally in the Junior American Citizens essay contest — an achievement recognized alongside the chapter's Blue Ribbon, Outstanding Membership Growth, and 100% Participation in the President General's Project awards from NSDAR.
DAR Good Citizens Award
We honor high school seniors who demonstrate dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism, as selected by their teachers and peers.
Patriotism
First Responder Appreciation
Every September 11, our members make and deliver baskets of appreciation to area fire stations, honoring the service of local first responders.
Veterans Support
Annual wreaths for veterans’ graves, care packages for deployed service members, support for local VA facilities, and participation in Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies.
Appalachian Literacy Initiative
We partner with the Appalachian Literacy Initiative in Bristol to support literacy through volunteer hours and book sorting. In Appalachia, there are small rural schools without libraries and children who grow up without owning a book.
Historic Preservation
Protecting the sites and stories that shaped our region.
