Our Mission

We are a chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution—a community of women who honor our nation’s founding by preserving history, promoting education, and advancing patriotism in everyday life.

Since our founding in 1924, the Fort Chiswell Chapter has connected women across generations who share a commitment to legacy, leadership, and love of country.

Who We Are

We are teachers, mothers, veterans, historians, professionals, and volunteers.

What unites us is a shared desire to honor our patriot ancestors and make a meaningful impact in our community.

Through service projects, student scholarships, historical preservation, and civic engagement, we carry forward the values that built this country.

Our chapter includes members from across Southwest Virginia, Northeast Tennessee, and beyond—all tied together by family stories rooted in America’s founding.

Our Roots at Fort Chiswell

We take our name from Fort Chiswell, a colonial fort built in 1758 that played a key role in supplying lead to Revolutionary forces. It was also the site of one of the earliest declarations of independence in American history—signed right here in Virginia, months before 1776.

Today, the monument that marks the original site stands as a symbol of resilience, boldness, and civic courage. That legacy inspires our work.

What We Do

• Preserve: Patriot graves, monuments, and local historic sites

• Educate: Organize youth contests, civic lessons, and Constitution Week programs

• Serve: Support veterans, participate in naturalization ceremonies, and volunteer locally

Whether we’re marking a patriot’s final resting place, guiding a student to discover history, or ringing bells on Constitution Day, our goal is the same:
